If I can learn to feed the birds
Then I can be ok
Then I can learn to care for others
In kind and caring ways
Then I can learn to look beyond
my pain and all my need
To see the rest, despite how small
And set aside my greed
If I can walk outside to fill
A little house with seed
For birds that do not matter much
in a world replete with need
If I can spend my money on them
And never feel the thrill
Of designer jeans and expensive phones
But rather do God’s will
If I can learn to love and care
Than I am okay
To give to those who cannot thank
And share with those who don’t repay
If in my sorrow
I provide
Without exchange for joy,
Or in my weakness
Do not hide
But build and not destroy
Then I can live and be okay
Beyond these tears that fall
Beyond the bleeding and the fear
And moments I feel small
To lift up those in need
Regardless of how things end
Then I will stretch my tired hand,
That’s how my time I’ll spend
