The end of the letter

1 peter 5:6-12

Peter ends his letter by telling us how we are to relate to God and the devil. Before God we humble ourselves, before the devil we resist. “Humble thyself therefore under the hand of God so that he may exalt you at the proper time.” one way we can humble ourselves before the Lord, Peter tells us is “by casting all anxieties upon the Lord.” It is vulnerable to even admit our anxieties and fears, the things that worry and weaken us. when we cast our anxiety we are pouring our our heart before the Lord, surely this is a form of humility and a posture of meekness. when we humble ourselves, we are revealing to God and ourselves who we are (flesh and blood) and who we are not (God). We excite our reliance upon the Lord God Almighty when we acknowledge who he is and who we are in his presence. being humble is a position. It is important to remain in the correct position, so that we are in the proper place for God to exalt . We must not wander from beneath his caring mighty hand, but wait patiently. Humility will also encourage a proper and right relationship with God.

“resist the devil firm in your faith… being firm in the faith is the best way to resist the devil. Being firm in the faith means knowing who I am in Christ, knowing who God is what Christ has done. Being firm in my faith means knowing what believe and why. I must not waver or wander from the truth. Just as Paul said, stand with armor on. Our faith is a shield against Satan’s arrows and when we are secure in what we believe, the devils blows have far less impact on us.
