We do NOT get to know God accidentally. I know that many of you want to know God. I know you desire to hear God. I believe you long for God. He knows that about you and created you to long for him, but you will never know God deeply and intimately simply because you want it , by accident, or even because God made you that way. Just as you will not get strong by wanting to, you will not get a college degree accidentally.
God is intentional and we too must be intentional about pressing in and spending time with Him. Toby Mac said, “Prayer is talking to God, reading your bible is God talking to you.” and this is how ANY relationship works. If we want to know God, His will, His heart and His power in our lives, we must read His word. Reading alone, privately and intentionally is vital to our faith, spiritual maturity and intimacy with the Lord. Set aside as much time for God each day as you do to check your email, eat a meal, or take a shower.
Reading God’s words keeps us in right relationship with God. Many of us want to know “why I don’t know God’s will, why God isn’t speaking to me, how can I believe in God when i pray but there is only silence. I don’t feel God, he isn’t doing what I need or ask or want. he isn’t changing a situation in my life.” Oh sister, I HEAR you. but here is some tough love: please hear my heart, I am not judging you, I am imploring you, If you want to see God, hear God interact with God more personally you must read His word. I know some of us are waiting for the big moment when God reveals himself. It is highly likely God isn’t going to show up in a burning bush to speak to you, don’t count on it. No matter how special you are. Today, he speaks to us most frequently through His word, we can rely on it and expect and we don’t have to wait, we have access to God 24/7. How many of us are taking advantage of the modern day we live in? How many are putting in the time to read his word, to listen every single day. I want to inspire and motivate and challenge and encourage you READ GOD”S WORD and you will begin to know God in a way you never thought possible. I cannot tell you what mysterious and unique ways God will encounter you, but I am certain He will.
