Salvation is a Gift

A friend of mine once asked, “what does it even mean to be saved” we both had christian backgrounds. I was coming from a pentecostal, born again, evangelical , baptist, messianic jewish background I was shocked that such a simple question dislodged me who was such an avid student of the Bible and such a long time Christian. I should have been able to answer that in my sleep. But instead, I was stumped, It was like my brain was so used to quadratic equations it had forgotten simple addition and subtraction. I mean I “knew” what it meant to me, I knew how I saw people who were “saved” verse those who were not “saved”, but I didn’t know how to answer her in a succinct way. Now of course this bothered me, because if you can’t explain something simply than you don’t know it well enough. But what does it really mean to be saved? Be saved from what? From hell? In it’s simplest definition, to be saved or Salvation is a gift , it is God’s kingdom and righteousness earned by christ and freely given to us.
